How the belief that black cats are symbols of bad luck originated I have no idea. They are just like any other cats, that I do know, each with its own personality of course. Taking care of two of them has not brought me many mishaps. I've had unlucky events just like anyone else I assume, but I do not attribute it to them.

This misbelief puts black cats at a disavantage. Over cats of other colors they are less likely to be adopted at shelters. Not only that, I believe they are also more likely to be harmed by humans.

Our cat Gori was a happy outdoor kitten, running, hunting lizzards, climbing trees and just being cute. Neighboring kids would chase after him every time they caught a glimpse of him. For this reason we had to constantly keep an eye out. One from the group of kids warned me that the others wanted to burn him. Since then we decided to bring him indoors. How can such a cruel act cross kids minds? Its just another thing on my list that I don't know.

If you are planing on getting a pet cat don't rule out black ones. They do have an advantage over others. When you wear black you can worry less about getting their hair on you; it is less visible.
